From Campus to City Hall: AdNU IT student serves as City Youth Accountant

Sam Lim, a first-year BS Information Technology student from Ateneo de Naga University’s Department of Computer Science, has been appointed as the City Youth Accountant in this year’s Naga City Youth Officials Program.
Chosen from over 300 applicants, Lim emerged successful after an intense week-long selection process that tested candidates through rigorous written examinations and panel interviews.
The Naga City Youth Officials Program, first introduced under the visionary leadership of the late Mayor Jesse M. Robredo, is a pioneering youth governance internship designed to immerse young leaders in public service. It offers hands-on experience in urban governance, allowing participants to work closely with city officials, contribute to policy-making, and engage in community initiatives.
For Lim, the role is more than just a title—it’s a calling.
“Being part of the Naga City Youth Officials has been a profound privilege that has enriched my understanding of civic responsibility and community leadership,” he shared. “It is empowering to know that my contributions, no matter how small, play a vital role in the betterment of the youth.”
As City Youth Accountant, Lim plans to merge his growing IT expertise with his responsibilities in public finance. He intends to apply his skills in spreadsheets and basic accounting software to ensure accurate, organized, and transparent record-keeping for the City Youth Office. Beyond his current abilities, he is committed to expanding his knowledge of advanced financial tools to help modernize and streamline accounting processes.
Collaboration is another aspect of the role he eagerly anticipates.
“I look forward to the dynamic collaboration and exchange of ideas that working with other City Youth Officials will bring. Each official brings unique strengths and experiences, and I am excited to learn from their perspectives while contributing my own,” he stated.
Sam also emphasized the value of building strong professional relationships within the team, seeing them as essential to fostering an inclusive, motivated, and efficient working environment.
As he embarks on this journey, Lim carries with him not only the skills of a budding IT professional but also the heart of a leader committed to making a difference.
